Mobility
Due to the inefficient transportation system and increasing population, Lexington is suffering from traffic congestion over years. This mode slows down the interaction pace. People's preference can be influenced by traffic consideration. The following reasons will further explain. First, Lexington is located a junction of two major interstate routes: east-west I-64 and north-south I-75. The two interstates share a common route along the northeast border of the urbanized area. Traffic volumes along the common route of I-64/I-75 have increased a lot since 1990. The urban area's interstates is unique in that it runs along the northern border instead of across the center of the urbanized area, which eliminates many of the problems commonly associated with interstate traffic in urban area. However, interstate trips with destinations to the south and west of Lexington must travel through large portion of the urbanized area to get on interstates.
